National Helpline Information

If you or your loved one is struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or 1-800-487-4889. Alternatively, you can send your zipcode to 435748 (HELP4U) via text message. The helpline provides referrals to local rehab centers near you, treatment facilities, support groups, and other organizations.

SAMHSA’s National Helpline received 833,598 calls in 2020. The call service is available in English and Spanish, while the text message service is only available in English. The service is confidential and does not require users to provide any personal identifying information to get a referral. The referral service does not require insurance and can help users locate a state or government-funded addiction treatment center that is right for them.

The service is available to anyone 24/7, every day of the year. Users can also visit the online treatment locator to find rehab centers.
